Have you ever found yourself wondering how to get started with coupons? Then this post is for you!
This blog is not a true couponing blog because I don’t post daily deals or coupon match ups. When I started this blog it seemed to me that the market was too saturated with couponing blogs so I wanted to show how I save money and live well.
Readers often ask me for couponing advice and I figured what better why to show what works for me than to write this post. Here are my tips to start couponing.
- Figure out a system for keeping your coupons. Some people clip all their coupons while others file each insert into a filing system. I prefer to file because I don’t want to waste time clipping if I don’t need to. The very best instructional I’ve ever seen came from Southern Savers. Check out her instructions for getting started with coupons. That site has EVERYTHING you need to get started.
Find a regional coupon blog for your coupon match ups. They will do the leg work for you. They will tell you what is on sale and what coupons to use. Different regions of the country have different inserts. For example, now that I live in a retirement town we have tons of Depends coupons and less diaper coupons. When I lived in St. Petersburg, FL, I used Southern Savers, now I use True Couponing. It takes a while to find a blog that coincides with your inserts. Keep Google searching or ask another couponer in the grocery store what match up site she uses.
Give yourself at least 3 months before you see any real savings. It takes time to stockpile your coupons and use them efficiently. Don’t give up too soon!
Take part in a drug store rewards program. CVS, Walgreens and Rite Aid all have amazing rewards. Find out more at Southern Savers.
Follow your favorite coupon blogs on social media and keep up with the comments. There have been tons of times that I didn’t know about a deal until another follower commented about it.
Here are my favorite websites for coupon deals.
Southern Savers– best website to learn the ropes and best regional website for most of the South
True Couponing– best regional website for South Florida
Deal Seaking Mom– great all around deals, always has free magazine offers, and she has a good podcast series
CouponMom.com– best online coupon database
Am I missing any good websites? Please let me know if I should add something to this list!
