Back in college I didn’t understand the point of life hacks. I certainly didn’t understand the need for kitchen hacks. While life seemed stressful with school, work and a social life, it was never stressful enough to need hacks. Ten years and two kids later, even my hacks need hacks. My brain is constantly fried. I’m not sure if I should blame the kids or the fact that I’m getting older. It’s possible it could be the combination.
Hacks have become my new best friend. I think it’s possible to do anything and everything better. That’s why I’m sharing these 3 kitchen hacks to save you money. They will also help save your sanity. Believe me, I’ve been there.
HACK #1: Be Smart with your Trash
We don’t throw away a lot of stuff. Most of our waste is either composted or recycled. When we do have stuff to throw away, it sits in the trash can for a few days until it fills up, which means it can quickly get stinky. That’s why I love Hefty Ultra Strong. They keep the trash from smelling like, well, trash. I don’t usually like anything to be scented, but the Arm & Hammer scents in lavender vanilla and citrus orange aren’t overpowering. They also make a scent-free option!
I also love that they are super strong. I never have to worry about my bags breaking. While I’m on the topic of trash, I need to let you know that having a pull out trash can is a game changer. Love. It.
To make things even better, they are reasonable priced and often have coupons. There are two great deals going on for them right now:
- Ibotta: Earn $1.00 cash back via Ibotta after purchasing one box of Hefty trash bags
- Coupons.com: Save $1.00 off one box of Hefty trash bags
I usually pick mine up at Walmart or Target since I seem to be at one of those stores at least once a week! It’s only Wednesday and I’ve been to Walmart twice and Target once. Sigh. At least I saved money on trash bags!
HACK #2: Use Reusable Storage Containers
This hack has saves me a ton of money. I never buy disposable storage containers. Instead, I invest in sturdy reusable ones every few years.
Not only do they work well in the fridge, but they are perfect for entertaining. Clear, glass containers go with every party color scheme!
HACK #3: Make Your Own Foaming Soap
I buy concentrated castile soap and mix it with water in a reusable foaming soap dispenser. You can find them for around $8 at Walmart or Target. I use it not only to wash my hands, but also to wash my dishes.
All you need to do is fill 1/4 of the container with soap and fill the rest up with water very slowly so the soap doesn’t bubble too much.
These three hacks have seriously saved my sanity. If my kitchen isn’t clean and fresh smelling, then I panic. I love being able to walk into my kitchen and know that everything is in order without spending a ton of money.
What are your favorite kitchen hacks? I’m always looking for new ones!
