TGIF! Y’all I am so excited for the weekend. Tom has been out of town most of the week and I can’t wait to spend a little bit of time as a family.
While he was gone, I took a mini vacay to St. Petersburg. My MIL had the kids so I traveled north to spend two nights with this lovely lady.
Irene just bought a house so I drove up to check it out. She spoiled me with delicious food and even served me drinks and apps in the pool. Check out this poolside spread.
I love visiting friends like Irene because I feel like I’m at home with her. I didn’t feel pressured to go out and spend money because we both enjoy sitting around talking, eating, and cooking.
Hanging out in the pool was too much fun. I forgot how much I enjoyed hanging out in a pool without kids. Irene has this really cool California vibe that I love going on in her pool deck.
While she was at work on Wednesday I took a stroll through downtown St. Pete. Tom and I moved away about 4 years ago, right when they started adding cool murals all over the city. Since I hadn’t seen most of them, I took myself on a mural walking tour.
It was really cool to explore the city on my own. When I lived there I never walked around like a tourist. I’d walk to school, work, restaurants and bars, but I never walked aimlessly.
It felt strange walking around by myself with nowhere to be. I’m constantly on the go with the kids. I kept reminding myself to relax and enjoy the kid free moments.
The mural above is located right down the street from our old house. I love seeing cool stuff like this go up in our old stomping grounds. It makes me miss St. Pete!
Some of the murals were just plain weird. Even so, I loved walking around taking these shots. I felt like a reporter for National Geographic.
The murals in the alleyways made me happy. I felt like I had finally stumbled upon something secret and hidden because you can’t see all of them from the road.
Then there are the ones that were right there on the main drag.
I think I could have walked around all day if the heat hadn’t started to get to me. You can only walk around for so long in the Florida summer heat.
It’s a good thing my mini vacation didn’t cost much because we went way over budget this week. I had 3 sponsored blog posts this week which meant I had a few things to pick up at Walmart and Target. We also hosted dinner for friends which meant I bought more than usual at the grocery store.
I ended up spending $198 at Walmart, well over my goal of only spending $100. You win some, you lose some, right? On the bright side, I did get my free Starbucks rewards drink yesterday. That is always a day brightener!
I also spent $14 to take Robert to see Finding Dory. Worth. Every. Penny. Man, it was a cute movie!
Spending so much money makes me want to get serious about separating my blog spending from my personal spending. I guess it is time to make a Eat, Drink, and Save Money bank account!
How did you do this week on budgeting? Over? Under?
