I have to admit, I feel pretty overwhelmed during that holidays because I can’t keep up with all the fun things to do/ make/ eat/ drink. It sometimes becomes too much. That’s why over the last couple of years, I’ve paired back on what we do over the holidays. I refuse to bake every cookie, do every craft, and partake in every holiday activity.I refuse to bake every cookie, do every craft, and partake in every holiday activity. Click To Tweet
This DIY ornament is one activity that has stood the test of time. We do this every year, and I look forward to many more years.
Our DIY ornament tradition is fairly simply. Each year I buy clear plastic ornament from The Dollar Tree or Michaels, whichever one is cheaper. Then we fill them up with “mush balls” or other tiny decorations.
Robert loves to refer to tiny pom poms as mush balls. I guess it’s a pretty accurate description since they are fairly mushy.
Each year I throw a bunch of pom poms on the floor and let this kids go to town on stuffing their ornaments. BTW- I totally stole the idea for this shot from Kristin Moore Photo’s Instagram account. I’m obsessed with the way she captures her families everyday moments.
One year (the year Robert was obsessed with Frozen) we filled them with blue “mush balls”.
This year, and also in 2014, we went with classic red, green, and white. The sales at the craft stores dictated my color selection this year.
Another reason I love this craft is because it’s so versatile. You can fill them up with all kinds of memories. Next on my list is to fill one with sand and a shark tooth from our Amelia Island trip.
My favorite ornaments are the ones I filled with hospital hats from the boys. I love the way these turned out.
There are so many fun ornaments you can make with clear ornaments, and it’s a great way to save money while making memories.
