With Earth Day right around the corner, I wanted to share my favorite tips on how to be eco-friendly on the go. It can be a challenge in this world of constant consumption, but with my tips you can easily be more eco-friendly and reduce your waste.
For years I’ve been very conscious about the household waste I produce. When I do have packaging waste, I’m usually able to recycle it or even compost it these days. However since having kids, I’ve encountered a few bumps in the road when it comes to waste. First off, kids eat often. Secondly, they really love food that comes in packaging. This makes it a little difficult to be eco-friendly on the go.
My kids probably think that I limit junk food and juice boxes because I want them to be healthy. It’s a nice thought, but the real reason is that I hate all the waste that junk food and juice creates.
Most All junk food comes with lots of packaging that isn’t recyclable or compostable. Because of that I try to keep snacks and drinks on hand that don’t require waste. Here are the tips you need to do the same.
How to be Eco-Friendy on the Go
ONE: Carry a good reusable water bottle
This is my #1 tip. Stop buying bottled water and use a reusable water bottle instead. My go-to water bottle is the Contigo AUTOSEAL® Chill Bottle. I love it because of the auto seal technology that allows it to not spill in my bag. I always have water in my purse so I need a good bottle that won’t spill.
Need another reason? It keeps water cold for up to 28 hours! Not that my water ever sits there that long. It’s still a great feature to have, especially in this Florida heat.
Want an even better reason? You can buy them at Target. I love any excuse I can get to go shopping at Target. Right now Target has three exclusive colors. It’s always fun to get something you can’t find anywhere else, right?
TWO: Pack snacks that don’t need to be bagged or come in packaging
I always keep a banana, an apple and some oranges in my purse. They don’t require any packaging and the waste they produce is easily decomposed.
THREE: Use reusable bags and containers for snacks that need it
If I must carry loose snacks like nuts or berries, I like to put them in a reusable container instead of plastic baggies. Sandwiches always go into reusable plastic bags. Both of these containers can be found at Target too, just a couple aisles away from the Contigo bottles found at the end of the water bottle and travel coffee mug aisle.
A few more reasons to love Contigo
- The handle makes it super easy for traveling, especially for carry on luggage while flying.
- The spout has a cover so you don’t have to worry about germs.
- Contigo bottles are easy to clean because they are dishwasher safe on the top rack.
- All bottles are BPA-free.
Celebrate Earth Day everyday
Little efforts like this can add up fast. Just imagine if you cut out all plastic bottles from your life. Then stopped using plastic bags. Even though we think more about the Earth this month for Earth Day, it’s always nice to make efforts like this every day of the year.
