If you’re a mom, you’ve already earned a lot of badges from all your “war stories”. Now you can earn even more. Find out how to earn a Mom Badge on Twitter when you share your own “war story”. My personal favorite is the Nap Champ Mom Badge. Check out my most recent mothering “war story”:
It’s been a while since I’ve shared a personal story on my blog. As much as I love writing about tips and trick to save you money, I’ve missed getting personal in this space. Today seems like the perfect time to share a little “war story” on motherhood.
I’m not sure if I ever shared with you that Robert stopped napping right around the time he turned three. That means he has gone about a year without taking a nap. It’s not that he wanted to stop napping. He actually loved naps and would nap for 3-4 hours if I let him.
The problem was that he would wake up cranky, be a brat all afternoon, and then fight bedtime only to finally fall asleep around 9:30 or 10 then wake up at 5:30 the next morning. Since he napped at a completely different time than Jackson, I had zero me-time. I was constantly taking care of a kid from 5:30 am until 10 pm. It just wasn’t working for me.
Fast forward to present times: Robert has successfully transitioned to no naps. Both boys go to sleep for the night at 6:30 and I get lots and lots of alone time before I have to go to bed. It’s amazing. My husband and I rarely even do date night with a babysitter because every night is date night when your kids go to bed before 7.
The only problem is that now that Robert doesn’t nap, he can get really irritated on days where he is sick and actually needs a nap.
For the last two days he has had a nasty cough and just yesterday developed a fever. What’s a mom to do when a kid needs a nap, but won’t take one?
Enter Nap Champ. That’s right, that’s what I’m calling myself now. See the picture below for proof. Nap Champ to the rescue!
Here’s the deal- I’m not really a nap champ. I didn’t do anything special. Truth is, the kid was tired because he was sick.
You know what? I don’t care that I had nothing to do with it! I’m still claiming Nap Champ because that is how I feel right now. Surely I did something right to make the stars align and get both boys to nap at the same time, right? Yep. I’m owning it.
And I celebrated my victory with an easy dinner that I knew two boys with a cold couldn’t refuse: pizza!
