Can you believe that we are already talking about going back to school? It feels like summer just started. Some of you up North get a few extra weeks of summer vacation. Down here in Florida, school is back in session two weeks from today, August 17th. That only gives you fourteen days to get everything ready for back to school!
I don’t have school aged children yet, but I did spend 6 years teaching middle and high school. Back to school shopping was probably my favorite part of teaching, which is why I’m no longer a teacher. If shopping is the high point of your teaching career, it’s probably best to find a new job. And find a new job, I did! Now I’m staying home with my two boys and passing on my favorite shopping advice to you. Here are my favorite frugal finds for back to school. Some of these links are affiliate links which means that if you buy anything through the link, you’ll support my blog (i.e. I’ll probably only make a few cents) at no extra cost to you. I appreciate your support!
School Supplies: My favorite deals have always come from Office Depot and Staples. Each week they have different deals. Keep an eye on their circulars to find school supplies for as low as 5 cents! I just bought a bunch of Crayola supplies at Staples for 50 to 97 cents. Too lazy to hunt for all the supplies? Buy this Crayola Third through Fifth Grade Supply Pack from Amazon for only $29.99
Books: Do you need books for a reading list? If so, you’ve got to buy them used through Amazon. I’ve found books for a penny before! A penny! My entire hardback collection of Harry Potter books came from Amazon and each one was less than $3. Pay attention to shipping though. When you buy used, you can’t use Prime, and sometimes shipping for the used books is almost as much as you’d pay for it new. Try to bundle your purchases and buy all your books from the same seller so you only pay shipping once!
Don’t forget that you can rent textbooks from Amazon too!
Backpacks: When it comes to backpacks, you can’t go wrong with the classic JanSport . They come is a ridiculous amount of options from solids to skulls. Of course, my favorite as a kid was L.L.Bean with the monogrammed initials. Is that even cool anymore? Was is ever cool? I was a bit of a dork. If L.L. Bean is still cool, then you’ve got to check out this backpack for only $29.95!
Clothing: Want to buy your kids’ more clothing, but don’t want to spend a fortune? Check out Schoola. It’s an online used clothing site that has tons of great options. Celebrate Back to School season with Schoola! For a limited time, get 50% off plus free shipping on all orders with code BACKTOSCHOOLA. Shop now!
Lunch Gear: If you have responsible kids who bring back their lunch box every day, you must buy BlueAvocado Re-Zip Seal Reusable Lunch Bags. I have several of these for our snacks and swear by them. You can toss them in the dishwasher or washing machine, whatever is easiest for you. The kit of 5 is only $19.99 which may sound like a lot, but think of all the money you’ll save by not buying plastic sandwich bags. It’s also eco-friendly!
I’m a fan of these One Planet 100% eco friendly recyclable lunch boxes for only $7.95! Lunch boxes get gross fast, instead of throwing it in the landfill at the end of the year, recycle this one. Isn’t that cool?
Snacks and pre-made lunch packs like Lunchables and Half-Time (a healthier and pricier alternative) are also on sale during this time. Go ahead and stock up on a bunch of them if you have the space.
