It’s possible to make the whole family happy with one gift during Christmas. These 7 Christmas gifts the whole family can enjoy are sure to be family favorites!
Confession: I get really stressed out about the influx of stuff that comes with Christmas. As much as I love the holidays, I can’t handle all the unnecessary exchanging of gifts. It brings too much clutter to our already clutter filled lives. That’s why I’m a big fan of buying “family gifts”: things that the entire family can enjoy all year long. Check out my favorite Christmas gifts the whole family can enjoy.

7 Christmas Gifts the Whole Family Can Enjoy
1. Vacations and Experiences
This is my favorite gift idea. You can do something as simple as one trip to the zoo, a family membership to the zoo, or a vacation to visit the San Diego Zoo. My favorite way to save money on this gift is to search Groupon and money saving apps like Dosh.
I feel like memberships are the gifts that keep on giving. Did you know that if you have a membership to a children’s museum, zoo, or aquarium you can get in for free or half off at many other ones throughout the country!? This is my favorite traveling tip for families. Read more about it here in an article I wrote for Traveling Mom.
Why did it make my list? Vacations and experiences top my list because people tend to value experiences over stuff. The memories you make on vacations or on a family outing last forever. Toys and stuff don’t.
2. Family Entertainment
I’m a big fan of buying things that will entertain the whole family such as board games, puzzles, and entertainment systems. If you can play it or watch it together, I consider it to be family entertainment!
My current favorite family entertainment item is our Fire TV. I can’t tell you enough how much I love our Fire TV. I love it so much that we have one for each TV. It’s that good. Read my full review here.
Why did it make my list? Because it saves us tons of money and brings us together as a family. I use it daily to play music for the kids. We watch movies as a family through all the great apps. And we use it to view family photos through the free photo storage app. It’s amazing and I love that it’s a device that our entire family loves.

3. Cups & Tableware
Price: $19.99-29.99
I’m a big fan of making everyday items into Christmas gifts. A couple things we always need are good cups and nice tableware.
My current favorites are SIC Cups and RePlay Recycled Tableware for kids.
I’ll admit it, I’m 100% biased when I recommend SIC cups because my good friends own the company. Even if they didn’t own it, I’d still recommend them because the cups work so well.
Why did it make my list? Because these cups and tableware are amazing for the entire family and hold up well.
4. New Furniture & Home Decor
We buy one nice new thing for our house every year around the holidays and consider it our big family gift. Last year we bought this couch.
This year we had planned to upgrade our dining room table, but then Hurricane Irma hit. We will be paying to fix our back yard patio instead. Maybe the dining table will come next year!?
I’m also a big fan of adding new plants as gifts. We bought this fiddle leaf fig as a gift about a year ago and it’s my favorite item in our house.
Did you know that you can buy a fiddle leaf fig on Amazon?! Check it out here. Such a great deal!
Why did it make my list? New furniture makes me list because it’s something the whole family can enjoy. Even something as small as a new side table or new throw pillows can really spruce up your home. It’s a place that the whole family enjoys, so why not make it a family gift?
Subscription boxes
Subscriptions boxes are the gifts that keep on giving. If you do it right, you don’t have to spend a lot of money on them either!
Why did it make my list? These are great gifts because you can give something that the family can enjoy all year long. I’m a big fan of food subscription boxes, but also love the idea of books and educational toys for kids.
College or Retirement Savings
We give our kids less toys during Christmas and birthdays so we can put more towards their college educations. We’ve asked family members to do this same. This has helped us out so much because now our kids have a combined total of nearly $10,000 for college.
Tom and I have been known to give each other money for retirement too! For the last few years I’ve gotten an extra 401K deposit for my birthday and Christmas. For years I “gave” Tom money to pay off his loans.
Why did it make my list? Being financially secure is the best gift I can think of.
