Happy Friday! It’s time for another edition of Food Waste Friday. Every Friday I link up with The Frugal Girl and/ or Simply Being Mum for Food Waste Friday. I’ve been environmentally conscious about food waste since I was in college and this is a great way for me to keep tabs on what we waste in our house.

Here is how we did this week:
Food Waste Successes
1. continued to freeze fruit
Robert still loves to eat half a banana and lose interest. While I don’t mind eating after him, I also love throwing these pieces in the freezer to save for smoothies or “ice cream”.
Looks like we will have a fun frozen snack this afternoon!
Food Waste Losses
2. another strawberry
I’m happy to announce that we did not lose this strawberry to mold. This marks the first time in weeks that we haven’t had a moldy strawberry.
Instead, we lost this one to a spider. So. Gross. I didn’t snap a picture because I did not want to see it. This is a strawberry from the same carton though.
Tom took a bite and said it tasted funny, then he looked in it and found a spider living instead of it, web and all. I guess this is what I get for forking over the extra dollar for organic. Maybe I do like pesticides on my strawberries.
3. beans
Last week when I was cleaning out my pantry I found a dried soup mix for 13 bean soup.
It turned out pretty good! Somehow I forgot about it and it ended up in the back of my fridge. Normally I’d be okay with leftovers up to 5 days, but I don’t like to risk it while pregnant. Throwing up while pregnant and watching a toddler is no fun.
How did you do this week?
ewwww omg I would flip if I found a spider living in a strawberry!!! The other week I was cutting open a date (to fill with peanut butter, mmm) and it was completely full of mold?! So gross. I was really glad that it was one I was cutting into before eating, because normally I’d just bite in! bleh.
Spiders, ugh! I had no idea they might nest in a strawberry. I guess I should start cutting mine up too, as I sometimes gobble them up whole. I don’t know that non-organic product is safer from critters, though, as I have found worms in apples, etc.
Good week, Hannah! I wouldn’t have tried the soup either if I were pregnant.
OMG HORROR!!! I don’t know what I would do if I found a spider in my strawberry! Ugh! I found a worm in my apple once, luckily I cut into it first, and I am forever wary of apples now! Ugh, I am so cutting my strawberries in half from now on!
