Have you ever wondered when is the best time to buy certain items? I know I have! This series of blog posts is to help you figure out what items are at their cheapest prices each month. At the beginning of every month I’ll post what items you should be buying. Of course, only buy if you are seriously in the market. You can’t save money if you’re spending it! Here is the October edition of Best Time to Buy.
What to buy in October
Appliances
With the exception of Refrigerators (see May), September and October are the best time to buy big appliances, since it’s when new models start coming out. You can get last year’s leftovers for less. [Bankrate, About.com]
Broadway Tickets
October continues the “off season” for Broadway, so it’s another good time to find deals on tickets. [CNN]
Jeans
Jeans are one of the more common leftover items after the back-to-school rush, so hit the mall in between back to school season and holiday shopping season for some mad prices. [Real Simple]
Patio Furniture
Now that the outdoor season’s really wrapping up, you’ll find the best prices on patio furniture before it all goes away. I’m seeing this one everywhere, up to 70% off at some stores.
Halloween Decor
If you don’t want to wait until after the holiday, you need to get into the craft stores now. They are already marking their Halloween décor up to 40% off to make room for Christmas décor.
In season produce
These items should be relatively inexpensive this month:
Apples
Bartlett Pears
Broccoli
Brussels Sprouts
Cauliflower
Cranberries
Honeydew Melons
Oranges
Peaches
Pumpkins
Spinach
National Events in October
Breast Cancer Awareness Month – You can get all kinds of unexpected items in the color pink this month! Look for mixers, jewelry, women’s bicycles and more. If pink is your color, this is your month to shop!

Columbus Day
Fire Prevention Week (10/5 – 10/11)
This series is inspired by one of my favorite posts from Lifehacker and most of the information comes from their page. If you don’t read Lifehacker, you should. They have the best tips for hacking anything and everything.
The in season produce list and national events came from True Couponing. This is a great site to use if you are in South Florida.
