In the ever-evolving world of spirits, one name has recently emerged as a beacon of innovation and sustainability: Blacklion Rare Sheep’s Milk Vodka. That’s right- vodka made from sheep’s milk! Blacklion sheep to be exact. Produced by Cotswold Blacklion Limited on their family-owned Sheaf House Farm, this vodka is not just a beverage; it’s a testament to the creative spirit of Tanya and Tim Spittle, the second-generation farmers behind this groundbreaking creation.

I recently had the opportunity to try Blacklion Vodka for myself and was so surprised by the taste. It is super smooth with notes of caramel and toffee. I thoroughly enjoyed sipping on it neat, but also loved how easily it paired with coffee and chocolate notes in cocktails. I was able to try it with tonic water and prosecco as well. Every single cocktail tasted great with the Blacklion Vodka.

And if you’ve been to my blog before, or follow me on social media, then you know how much I love a brand that is committed to sustainability!

Vodka Made from Sheep’s Whey- a Sustainable Way to Repurpose Wasted Whey from Sheep’s Cheese

My favorite thing about Blacklion Vodka lies in the sustainable approach to production. The Spittles are second generation sheep farmers who saw a sustainable way to use up the wasted whey from making sheep cheese. Did you know that 75-85% of the cheese-making process is surplus whey!?

Utilizing sugars-rich whey, a byproduct of sheep cheese production, the Spittles have found a way to transform a waste product into a super tasty vodka. The use of whey not only reduces environmental impact but also champions a sustainable solution in the spirits industry. And it certainly helps them stand out in a country that is known for gin instead of vodka.

The process begins on the family farm, where a rare crossbreed of sheep, the Swiss Valais Blacknose, provides the pure sheep’s milk essential for crafting this flavorful vodka. Through selective breeding, the Spittles have developed their own breed of sheep, ensuring the highest quality milk. This small-scale, family-centric approach allows them to produce Blacklion Vodka in small batches, embodying the essence of the British farming industry.

The resulting vodka is nothing short of extraordinary. Blacklion Vodka boasts a silky-smooth finish, unlike traditional cow’s milk vodkas. The silky smooth finish is my favorite part of this innovative vodka, making it a great choice for sipping vodka.

The success of Blacklion Vodka hasn’t gone unnoticed, as it has received numerous accolades and international awards. The spirit was awarded the prestigious Gold Medal at the Launch Design Bronze Awards and has been recognized as one of the “Future Food Stars” at the World Vodka Awards. The weekly awards the vodka continues to accumulate are a testament to the much-awarded taste and the Spittles’ dedication to producing the smoothest vodka.

I hate to break it to you, but Blacklion Vodka isn’t readily available in liquor stores in America just yet. You just wait though because I will keep updating this post with a full list of retailers that carry Blacklion Vodka. I know that Blacklion is going to take the United States by storm!

In the meantime, you can purchase online here.

If you are local to Naples, you can also purchase at Three60 Market.

Once US pricing is more uniform, I’ll keep you posted on if Blacklion Vodka is worth the price compared to other vodkas.
