My good friend Tracie is pregnant with her first baby- a baby girl! She already had a traditional baby shower with her friends and family, but you can never celebrate a first time mother too much, right? Our potluck group got together and celebrated the parents-to-be with a coffee themed baby shower brunch. There are two things a new mom can never have too much of: coffee and diapers. So we gave Tracie a Huggies Little Snugglers Plus newborn size pack of diapers from Costco. I’m telling you, there is no such thing as too many diapers. Especially that first week home!
A coffee themed baby shower, or party of any kind, isn’t complete without a coffee bar. This was my favorite part of the party because everyone got to help themselves and choose what kind of coffee they wanted.
I realize that coffee and pregnancy don’t always go well together, but Tracie and I have a history of coffee dates. It’s what we do! And tired moms know that coffee is the juice of life. I thought this was a very fitting way to celebrate Tracie.
The spread of coffee cake muffins, banana bread waffles, and chocolate eclairs paired very well with the coffee bar. The waffles were the biggest hit and they were so easy. All you do is put together banana bread like usual, but cook in a waffle iron instead of the oven.
Our potluck crew is pretty healthy so I threw together a strawberry and feta spinach salad. It was gone in a flash! I love using these chalkboard signs for everything. I use them for all my parties!
A baby shower isn’t complete without a game or a craft. Since the theme of the shower was coffee, the natural craft choice was to decorate a mug.
We all decorated a mug, and left happy messages on a mug for Tracie.
She liked the mug we made for her! I hope it brings her lots of smiles when she is up in the wee hours of the morning with her sweet baby girl.
It was a lot of fun to sit together and craft. The girls really got into it! We all sat around the dining room table decorating the mugs while the guys watched the Olympics in the living room.
I put together some decorating ideas to get the girls started. I consider myself to be creative, but I didn’t have the brain juice to come up with my own mug ideas so I looked to Pinterest and found these sayings on mugs.
They all ended up looking great!
After you decorate the mugs you let them dry overnight and then bake them for 30 minutes at 350 degrees. Hand wash the mugs to keep them looking great.
As we sat around decorating our DIY Sharpie coffee mugs, Tracie asked all the moms for their best piece of parenting advice. It was fun to hear everyone’s different advice. My piece of advice was to enjoy the all day pajama days and laying around the house because it won’t last long. Before you know it the kids will be bouncing off the walls and you will have to really entertain them! The long days at home will seem endless, but they are also the most memorable.
