Thank you Facebook Marketplace for sponsoring this post. There’s something for everyone!

It’s spring cleaning time! I swear this is the time of year that my mind scans my house and sees clutter. Or I’m ready for a fresh new look to perk up my place. Something about the spring just screams change! Why go out and buy a bunch of new things when I can shop online for gently used items? And also make some money selling items I’m ready to get rid of! Facebook Marketplace is a very easy and convenient way to buy and sell items online.

Chair for sale on Facebook Marketplace- how to make money decluttering your house

Why I’m Decluttering with the Help of Facebook Marketplace

Recently, I decided to sell a chair that we never used and was taking up too much space in our master bedroom. In fact, it had become the chair where my husband was dumping his dirty laundry.

Time to go! I listed it on Facebook Marketplace and easily made $35. All you have to do is take a few pictures, upload them to Facebook Marketplace with a few details, and manage your listing. It’s so easy!

Facebook Marketplace has everything laid out so you can quickly list your item and check how many times it’s been viewed. If it’s been a little while since you listed your item and haven’t gotten any interested customers (perhaps because you’ve priced your item too high), Facebook Marketplace even suggests what you should drop your price to.

Buying is so easy. Facebook Marketplace has items categorized so you can easily browse by interest, or you can just type in the search bar what you’re interested in buying! I’ve been thinking of socking away my $35 to save up for a king-sized bed now that I have the room in my master bedroom. I know the first place I’ll look for the bed – Facebook Marketplace!

How to Sell Items on Facebook Marketplace

Here are a few tips for selling on Facebook Marketplace so you can start clearing space and making money!

Pricing is so crucial! You might have an idea of how much the item is worth, but you’re selling it to other people, not yourself! Check out other items on Facebook Marketplace to get an idea of how to price your item. Other factors to consider are: How used is the item? Are there any imperfections or wear and tear? How old is it? All of these will impact your pricing.

Presentation! Make sure to take great photos of your item(s). Great lighting will help you out, so get some natural sunlight, or go to a bright room. No dark or nighttime photos! You want the photo to pop! And using a flash to try to enhance the photo won’t help you either. If your item has special details, like a dress with a back cutout, include a photo of this! You don’t want to upload a ton of photos, but make sure to capture the uniqueness of items.

Include details! If you know the brand, name it. If you know where it was purchased, include that, too! Other details you should include are how to get in touch with you (Facebook Messenger), whether you’re willing to ship, offer pick up at your home, or meet at a neutral location for a swap.

Be an attentive seller! When you list an item or items, keep your phone handy for responses. You are actually rated higher as a seller if you are responsive. Also, this will help you make a quicker sale if you respond to interested customers.

Maintain your listings! If you sell something, make sure to mark the item as sold. If you decide against selling an item, delete the listing. You don’t want to be bombarded by interested customers for an item that is already sold, or you no longer want to sell.
