This is the second year of my Direct Sales Series. I love this series because is shows how real people are making money by selling products they love. Some people sell as a side business while others make enough money to support their entire family. I hope you enjoy this little sneak peak into how other people make money through direct sales.
Today I have Kathryn, an independent Jamberry consultant. We decided to do a question and answer style. You’re going to LOVE her pictures!
What made you start using the product?
I have always been a nail girl! I started painting my nails myself when I was about 7 years old. I would paint my nails probably every other day through high school and tried my hand at some nail art as well. When I got to college I had less time and wanted something longer-lasting, so I would go to the salon to get shellac manicures. Not only was it expensive, but it also was very hard on my otherwise strong, healthy nails. I invested in my own at-home UV Gel manicure kit, but it never lasted as long as I wanted and didn’t look as nice either. I was introduced to Jamberry through an old friend’s online Facebook party and instantly I was fascinated! Long-lasting, affordable, stylish nail wraps I can easily apply myself that won’t chip or destroy my nails?! Yes, please!!! I was hooked after I tried just 1 sample and I have not gotten a salon manicure since!

How did you make the transition from consumer to seller?
It really was a no-brainer to me. I decided to become a consultant after only trying that first sample. I knew I loved the product and would be purchasing them often for my own personal use. The starter kit to join was almost the same price as I would have spent on wraps and supplies for myself to start out anyway. I was so excited about the idea of being able to purchase my nail wraps at a discount and being able to fund my own little obsession with any sales that I made. To be honest, I didn’t plan on becoming a consultant to make money. I was going to put everything I made back into buying wraps for myself (and believe me – most of my commissions do go back into Jamberry because I can’t get enough) but surprisingly I have been able to use the extra commissions for personal use as well.

Did you have any hesitations about joining the team? If so, how did you get over them?
The only hesitation I had was whether or not I would be a good consultant and actually be able to sell them. I realized though that I didn’t spend much more to become a consultant than I would have spent on the products that I received in my starter kit, so if I could not sell enough to remain a consultant it wouldn’t have been much of a loss at all and it was worth a try! It was going to be more of a hobby for me and I wasn’t relying on Jamberry for extra income. I shouldn’t have worried though. My excitement for the product makes the wraps practically sell themselves! I show off my nails or talk about Jamberry to people I see out and about and hand out samples and business cards to anyone who seems interested and I have made more sales than I originally anticipated! I couldn’t be happier with my decision!

What are the biggest pros as a consultant?
To begin with, I couldn’t believe the overwhelming amount of support I got when I first started out! There are so many resources available to consultants it made it so easy to start my little business! Every single consultant I have come into contact with has been amazingly helpful and supportive as well! We refer to ourselves as a Jamily, a Jamberry family, and that’s truly how it feels! I recently went to a regional conference and the energy and ideas and training they give you is wonderful. Best part about Jamberry – I get paid to have pretty nails! How cool is that?! I get paid to party and have fun with wonderful women and share something I enjoy with them! It does not feel like work at all!

Is it hard to build your client base?
Like any direct sales company, you build your client base mainly through word of mouth. You start with friends and family and branch out from there. It isn’t very difficult and with Jamberry the product practically speaks for itself. I get comments on my nails at the grocery store or post office all the time and I tell them they are Jamberry nail wraps and hand them my business card. And when your customers start to wear them, they will get comments and tell people too! It’s amazing how quickly your client base can grow, even if you didn’t speak to them directly at first. I also market through social media, which can be as easy as posting a picture to Instagram with a few hashtags. The key is to keep in touch with clients that have purchased from you before and make sure they remain interested and loyal.

How much time goes into selling the product?
The great thing about Jamberry is that I can be a consultant whether I have tons of time or very little time to devote to it! I choose my own hours and get to decide how much I want to put into it. The more you put into it, the more likely you’ll be successful, but you never know until you try! There are weeks I barely spend any time working on Jamberry at all and I still get sales from my loyal customers! It really is a personaI choice and every consultant runs their business differently, but I absolutely love being a Jamberry consultant!
What are the different products that Jamberry offers?
Jamberry obviously offers mainly nail wraps, but there are other products they offer as well. There is a line of 5-free Professional Nail Lacquer that coordinates perfectly with the nail wraps in each season’s catalog. I use the lacquer for accent nails, under clear based wraps, or on my baby toes and I have been very impressed with the quality compared to other brands of nail polish. Jamberry also offers application kits, mini-heaters for application purposes, nail care products, hand care products, and vitamin supplements.

Are there any other products you are excited about trying yourself?
I am always excited to try out all of Jamberry’s new products. One of the unique things Jamberry offers that I haven’t seen elsewhere is that they have customization available to create your own nail wraps. They call this the Nail Art Studio where you can design nail wraps for yourself that will be printed by Jamberry. I have created my own and have had them printed and I couldn’t believe how well they turned out!
I must admit – I was not on the bandwagon and refused to try these things. I don’t have time to do my nails and over the years, I really just stopped caring about them. I garden a lot and always have my hands in some type of cleaner so I just didn’t care. Kathryn has tried for a long time now to get me to at least TRY them. Finally, just last week, I said what the heck and applied a set. I must admit, I do like them! They are easy and fun and so far have stayed on my nails. Kathryn has made me a Jam-believer. LOL.
Jam-believer! Love it!
