I’m trying to soak up every last bit of fall before Christmas explodes in my house. Let’s get real, it doesn’t feel like fall here, which means it’s pretty hard to get in the mood for fall drinks and fall recipes. I’m trying though!
I knew I wanted to bring some fall ambiance into the house without spending a lot of money. My best friend, Mary, and I must have spent hours last week texting about the best places to buy cheap fall decorations. I hit up Michaels, Target, Walmart and Old Time Pottery. She did Michaels and The Dollar Tree. We both ended up finding enough stuff to do inexpensive crafts with our toddlers. Check these out!
Mary made the paper chains with her two year old, Leah. She also cut up the kernels for the corn and let Leah paste them onto the paper. Isn’t that adorable?
Robert and I made turkey footprints. He used bubble wrap to paint the feathers (that I cut out). We put a coffee filter in the middle to add texture. Then I did it again with a mason jar in between to make a candle holder.
I also found candy corn 75% off. I put it in another mason jar and tied a bow around it that my friend Yolonda had used when she gave me her delicious donuts a few weeks ago. Overall, I think we both did pretty well decorating on a budget! Robert had a great time.
While I was out scoping good fall deals, I also got these goodies. All of these came from the 50-75% off section at Old Time Pottery. I love going there for goodies. The hanging mason jars were a dollar and change. So. Cheap!
As I bring new things into the house, I’m trying to get rid of stuff for the MinsGame challenge. I’m trying to get rid of a total of 465 items this month. So far I am only up to 90. Eek! I’ve got a lot more to go. Here is Robert trying to get rid of some of his toys too.
Look who stopped by today! Our elf made a special appearance to help Robert clean out his play room for the #minsgame, a minimalism challenge to get rid of 465 things through the month of November. I was really proud of Robert as he picked 6 toys to give away. No tears! Do you get rid of old toys before Christmas too? #minsgameboss #elfontheshelf #donate #toddlerlife
We also spent some money getting this guy’s haircut at a real barber shop, 5th Avenue Barber. They had snacks galore set up, offered me coffee (from a French press- it’s like they knew I have a coffee obsession), had a bunch of fun items for sale, and best of all- gave a 15% discount for checking in on Facebook. Oh, and did I mention they give out lottery tickets with each haircut? So cute even though we didn’t win anything. I even picked up Tom a little stocking stuffer!
I’ve been doing really well on the freebie front lately. I got a couple toys to review in exchange for Amazon reviews. I also got these gummies through Mom’s Meet (an awesome group for bloggers to work with) to review here.
I sure do wish I could have gotten Robert to eat them so I could give a good review. He refuses to eat any and all gummies- even regular candy ones. I still have to hide the liquid drops in his milk every morning. Even though he didn’t like them, I did! They are great. They also make vitamins for women.
