When I was pregnant with Robert I traveled to visit my family for Thanksgiving and found the most adorable hand painted “We’re Expecting” ornament I’d ever seen. Okay, it may have been the first “expecting” ornament I’d ever seen, but you get the point. It was pretty beautiful. And pretty pricy, they were asking $30 for the thing! You all know how I feel about ornaments. I love them, especially the ones that have personalized messages on them. While I would love to buy fancy hand painted ornaments from specialty stores and Etsy, I can’t justify the prices. Which is why I have started to make my own personalized ornaments. I don’t have the best handwriting in the world and these certainly aren’t the best “Pinterest” worthy ornaments, but they have special meaning for us and I love knowing that I made these myself.
This is a picture of the one I saw in the store. It is now only $21.99 from ChristmasPlace.com. Only. Lol. Yeah, I still think $21.99 is a little too much for an ornament. Not going to happen in this household!
Here is the one I made when we were expecting Robert. I put our names and his due date on the other side. It’s not as nice as the store bought one, but I think it turned out pretty well since I made it using things I already had on hand. Cost for me to make it: $0.
Here is the one I made for the new baby due in April. It’s hard to see the words in this picture because of the lighting. It says “we’re expecting baby #2” and then has our names and the year the baby is due on the other side.
Like I said before, these ornaments aren’t perfect. I’m not going to be launching a personalized ornament business on Etsy anytime soon. Even so, these mean a lot to me because I was able to make them and spent absolutely nothing on them other than the cost of the paint pens which I bought for $3 for another project.
Have you ever decorated your own ornaments? Tell me about it!
