If you love Minions like me, then you’ll love these fun Minion themed party ideas that I put together for a viewing party. These would be fun for a Despicable Me party too!
Before having kids, I was a movie junkie. I loved going out to the movie theater. I’d go on dates with Tom or with a large group of friends. It never occurred to me that having kids would completely change movie night. These days, movie nights start around 4, and they never occur at the movie theater.
When Minions came out over the summer, Jackson was still just a little newborn. There was no way we’d be able to get our new family of four out to see it. As a Despicable Me fan, I’ve been waiting for the DVD/ Blu-Ray release of Minions since it hit the theaters. When it was finally released on DVD/ Blu-Ray last week, Robert, Jackson, and I headed to the store to pick up our very own copy.
I talked it up all day so Robert would be excited. He ran straight to the display and picked it out all by himself. He wouldn’t stop talking about the “mim-yins”.
Because movie nights aren’t ever complete without pizza and popcorn, I knew I had to do something a little special for this movie night. Robert is at the age now that he gets so excited about themed food. I wanted to do something fun, but also with very little effort. You know I’m not one to sit around and ice a cookie to look like a character. I wish I had the talent and patience, but I don’t.
Instead, I decided to make something that would surely make the whole family happy. Little did I know that Robert would be on an eating strike this week. More pizza for mom and dad, right?
The pizza looks impressive, but requires very little work. The hardest part is getting the olives just the right size to look like goggles for the minions. Everything else is easy peasy. Put your favorite pizza ingredients together, then top with American cheese minions made with olives and candy eyes.
Sure, candy eyes don’t actually pair well with pepperoni and olives, but it motivated Robert to eat his dinner. I can’t tell you how many times I said, “No eyes until you eat your pizza.”
Make the cheese minions about an hour before baking the pizza. Keep them in the fridge while the pizza bakes. While the pizza is cooling, add your minions. Use a spatula to remove the minions from wax paper. Check out my easy pizza recipe at the end of this post.
The whole family loves popcorn so I knew I had to make something special for us to eat while enjoying the movie. Since I’m an adult, I got the chocolate Minions munch, while Robert ate regular popcorn. Don’t you love being able to choose to eat chocolate at any time of the day? Best part of being an adult.
All I did for the minion munch was take popcorn out of a holiday popcorn tin and add blue and yellow candy, and candy eyes. That’s it. It works well with regular popcorn too.
We had so much fun with our first Minions movie night, that we’ve done it a couple more times since then! I don’t mind. I can easily get on board with pizza, popcorn and Minions several times a week.
My favorite part about the Minions DVD/ Blu-ray combo is that is also comes with a digital copy. These days there isn’t much need for hard copies. I prefer to have everything digital, but it’s nice to have the hard copy for visits to grandma. I was able to let Robert take the DVD with him during a visit to his grandmothers while I held onto the Blu-ray and digital copy. Three ways to watch for less than $20 isn’t bad!

What’s your favorite idea for hosting your own Minions watch party?
So adorable! May have to borrow this idea for my class . . .
Oh my, you should! Let me know how it turns out.
Love this…it’s such a cute idea!
Thanks!
Those pizzas are so cute! Those faces are adorable, and I love that it got your son off his food strike #client
Anything to get a toddler to eat, right?
I’m impressed, I must say. Seldom do I come across a
blog that’s both educative and interesting, and without a doubt, you’ve hit the nail on the head.
The issue is something not enough folks are speaking intelligently
about. I am very happy that I stumbled across
this during my hunt for something relating to this.
Candy on pizza??? Gross. Huge faux pas.
What can I say? I think it is super gross, but my kids literally ate it up.
