Every Friday I link up with The Frugal Girl and/ or Simply Being Mum for Food Waste Friday. I’ve been environmentally conscious about food waste since I was in college and this is a great way for me to keep tabs on what we waste in our house.
Here is how we did:
1.
take out sushi
I should have known better. Since I’m pregnant, I’m only getting cooked rolls and I hate cooked rolls. My body craves raw tuna. When I eat a California roll I just feel bummed. Tom and I bought 4 rolls to share and 3 of them were cooked, 2 of them were tempura rolls. Remind me never to get tempura rolls again. There was a time in my life when I was new to sushi and enjoyed the crispiness, but now all I want is raw fish. You all know I’m a fan of fried food and can’t get enough fried chicken, okra and tomatoes. For some reason the fried sushi rolls just don’t do it for me. We ended up tossing about a roll worth of sushi out. Pretty sad day.
2.
homemade dressing
I’d made some honey mustard and thought it would be fine to eat. It was stored properly and might have been safe. Even so, I tossed it just to be careful. I’d rather toss 1/4 cup of dressing than end up with food poison.
3.
leftover Christmas candy
I was able to use a bunch of our leftover Christmas chocolate in brownies. Tom has a co-worker who is leaving this week and I made a big batch for him to share with the office as a going away present. I’ll have to always use chocolate in my brownies, they turned out great!
4.
Fridge Pic
I’m going to start adding pics of my fridge to keep me accountable. This helps me keep my fridge somewhat organized too! Here is where we are this week. It looks pretty bare because I do my grocery shopping on Sundays or Mondays.
How did you do this week? Please share here and/or link up with the blogs above.
