Celebrate Valentine's Day with kids

I have something really cheesy to tell you: Valentine’s Day is so much more fun now that I get to share it with my kids. Sure, I like being sappy with Tom for Valentine’s Day, but this will be the 10th Valentine’s Day we’ve spent together. While the magic is still there, it doesn’t compare to the excitement from Robert. We made heart shaped waffles together and you would have thought he won the 2 year old lottery. I can’t get enough of that kind of love, which is why I’ve put together this list of fun and frugal ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day with kids.

Paint hearts

This is so much fun, and so easy. I cut out a bunch of hearts, taped them down on paper, and let Robert go to town painting them. We gave them out to the grandparents, then put the last one up by our family photo. I love the simplicity of the heart painted by my baby right next to a picture of those that I love most in the world. Things like this around the house mean so much more to me than expensive home decor.

Valentine's Day Decor on a budget

The best part is that painting keeps Robert entertained for a good hour. I set him up at the kitchen table to paint these hearts while I cleaned the kitchen.

Make waffles

Or make your favorite breakfast and use a heart shaped cookie cutter to make it special for Valentine’s Day. You can do this with pancakes, French toast, even eggs.

For these waffles I made the funfetti batter according to the boxed directions, then put them in the waffle maker. Robert had a blast cutting them into hearts with the cookie cutters

Add inexpensive decor

I’m all about decorating for holidays in this house. Not a single holiday goes by without some fun decorations going up in my kitchen and living room. I’m always looking for budget friendly ways to decorate. Here is what I did to bring Valentine’s Day into our house this year.

Valentine's Day Decor with doilies

I used red and white bakers twine (found on sale after Christmas) to attach Dollar Tree heart doilies with clothespins. It couldn’t have been easier or cheaper!

I also brought in a splash of red with these heart straws from the dollar spot in Target. Robert loves drinking out of the fun straws!
