Even though it isn’t spring yet, I’m dying to get a head start on my spring cleaning. Each year I try harder and harder to go eco friendly and do green spring cleaning. Over the years I’ve come to realize and accept that some areas need bleach. Other than the occasional bleach usage, my cleaning routine is pretty green. I’ve found that the best way to start with green cleaning is to buy reusable cleaning rags instead of disposable.
I know this can be a hard habit to get into once you are used to Swiffer products and Clorox wipes. I have to admit that I still have some Swiffer wet jet refills from my years of couponing and I break them out every so often. There is something to be said about the convenience. However, it’s a shame that you toss them as soon as you finish. Not only do they have a multitude of chemical ingredients, they are then thrown out and take up valuable land space in a landfill. Both of those facts make the environmentalist in me cringe which makes me want to use more reusable products in my household.
The problem with reusable products is that some of them are scams. I can’t tell you how many microfiber clothes I’ve had that move dust around instead of grabbing the dust like the Swiffer duster. Can you tell that I really loved using Swiffer? Anyway, for a while I didn’t know what to do about reusable products because I kept wasting money on items that didn’t work. Finally, I found e-cloth. The e is for eco/ environment, not electronic. Initially I thought these products were made to clean my electronics, which they can, they can also clean everything else in your house. Here’s the amazing part. They don’t need any chemicals at all! All you need is to wet the cloth and that activates the disinfecting powers. Research shows that the cloths wipe away 99% of bacteria on surfaces. Isn’t that crazy? I thought it was so crazy that I didn’t believe it until I tried it. The company gave me a free bathroom starter set and a non scratch scouring cloth for the kitchen to try out and they are giving one bathroom starter set away to a lucky reader! Here are some before and after shots.
I had neglected the bathroom cleaning over the holidays and our sink was looking pretty gross. Can you see all the dirt?
The sink still looks yellow because we have an old sink and the drain still looks dirty because it is a little rusty. I promise this is much cleaner!
The tile grout is what really convinced me that these cloths worked. We always get this nasty black mildew in the shower that I usually have to use bleach and a toothbrush to clean.
I can’t believe that the cloth and water was enough to wipe off all the mildew from the shower.
The best part about chemical free cleaning is that I was able to accomplish all my cleaning with Robert. I usually have to wait until he is asleep to do bathrooms because I don’t want him to inhale any chemicals. With e-cloth I was able to have him help me. This is a huge win in my book because now he can learn how to clean and I don’t have to waste my child free time cleaning bathrooms.
The e-cloth worked wonders on my glass and mirrors too. Unfortunately, I keep forgetting to take pictures. Trust me though, the ease of using only a cloth and water is worth it. I hate toting around a basket of cleaning products, green or not.
My absolute favorite products are these.
The sponge is so hardy and is supposed to last 300 washes! It is my new go-to sponge for dishes. It says I don’t need soap and while I want to trust them, I’m still using my favorite Mrs. Myer’s lavender dish soap. It smells so good! The scouring cloth is pure magic. It’s the only way I can clean my crock pot now!
Don’t take my word for it, try it out yourself! One lucky winner with get the bathroom starter pack for free!
