It’s tempting to over pack for vacations, right? Especially toiletries! With my tips you can pack light for your beach vacation. So light that all you need is a carry on if you are flying! Check out my favorite carry on toiletries tips for your beach vacation.

Travel Hack_ the ultimate carry on toiletries packing list for your next beach vacation

I use a carry on for toiletries because I always lose my luggage!

I have a knack for losing luggage. My craziest tale was from when I traveled to Hawaii. Somehow the airline sent my bags all the way to Australia. True, we were going to Australia next, but the ticket to Hawaii was in no way connected to Australia. It was fun waiting for those bags!

I’ve learned my lesson and now I always try to pack with nothing more than a large purse and a carry on. If I travel with the kids and must check luggage, I still always carry my toiletries and a few outfits in my carry on. You never know when you will lose a bag!

My most recent beach vacation was to Cabo San Lucas. As always I was afraid I hadn’t packed enough, but sure enough, I had every toiletry I needed, plus more since I followed this packing list.

Here are my tips for packing carry on toiletries for a beach vacation:

Invest wisely in beauty products

I have a few travel size beauty products, but for the most part I try to buy the regular size version of what I love that is within the carry-on limits. Reminder: you can only have a quart size bag of liquids that are less than 3.4 ounces each.

You might be surprised to find that you can get a better deal in the regular beauty aisle than on the travel aisle. Always check out full size products first!

Wipes are your best friend

Always pack make-up remover wipes. I’m using Neutrogena Makeup Remover Towelettes Refill. I like the refill because it’s easier to pack than the tub. Neutrogena is my favorite for summer skin care because it is the #1 dermatologist recommended facial skin care brand.

If you really want to bring your favorite face wash, then go for it, but I always skip it and bring face wash wipes instead. My skin is always fine for a few days this way as long as I’m still taking care of it and following up with moisturizer.

Don’t skimp on sunscreen

I always pack a travel size sunscreen for my body and the full size version for my face. Currently I’m using Neutrogena® Healthy Defense Moisturizer SPF50. The full size is fine for a carry on because it is only 1.7 ounces.  A bonus is that I can use it on my body in a pinch if I run out of sunscreen for the rest of my body.

Bring your favorite beauty items

Right now my favorite beauty item is the Neutrogena® Hydro Boost Moisturizer Gel. It works wonders after a long day in the sun. It’s a little larger than I’d prefer for travel, but I’d rather get rid of something else to make room for it.

Do the same with your products. Pick your favorites and make room for them as long as they are under 3.4 ounces.

Pack products that will work double duty

I’m a big fan of the sunscreen and moisturizer combos! Find products like that and save room and money.

Skip shampoo and conditioner

These days the shampoo and conditioner that hotels offer are great quality. I use those while on vacation, then bring a few of my favorite hair products like serums, travel sized dry shampoo, and travel sized hairspray. Luckily most of the good hair serums are under 3.4 ounces anyway meaning I don’t have to buy special travel versions.

Only buy travel size products you can’t live without

As mentioned above, I always buy travel size dry shampoo and hairspray because there is no way I can put those into tiny bottles and take them with me. Same goes for toothpaste and contact solution. Always buy the travel toothpaste! As for everything else, just keep an eye on the ounces and you should be able to find most products in a full size option that is a better bang for your buck.

Pack your bag thoughtfully

Make sure to only put liquids in your toiletry bag. Put your glasses, contacts, toothbrush, nail files, floss and other non-liquids in your bag with everything else. TSA will not need to see them so there is no point to waste room in your toiletry bag.
