This has been a much better week than last week. I did well with my spending, and have several successes to share with you. I also did pretty well with my food waste this week. Overall, I’m feeling pretty good when it comes to money!
Here is an overview of what’s been going on this week:
Successes
We got a free toy
I got our first toy in the mail for Christmas reviews. Jackson is taking his job as a toy tester very seriously.
This one was from Little Tikes. The best part about this is that I usually wrap them back up and put them under the tree for Christmas. My kiddos are so little that they don’t realize I do this yet. Let’s see if Robert figures it out this year!
Check out this post if you want to review toys too! It’s so much fun!
I made my Halloween costume for only $8
I’m going to be Rey for Halloween! Exciting! I was able to pick up 6 yards of beige toile for only $7.98.
I’m using stuff from my closet for the rest of the costume.
Under budget for groceries
Yes, you read that right! For the first time in months, I am under budget for groceries. I spent about $100 this week. I wish I could say it was because of careful meal planning, but it was mostly because we had a potlock for Labor Day and had tons of leftovers. Maybe we should have potlucks every week…
Failures
Too much eating out
I’m not really sure if this was a success or a failure because even though I went to Chick fil-A four times this week, I only spent $15 total. I had so many coupons and freebies that I barely had to spend money.
If you don’t already have the CFA ONE app, you need it. Now. You should also sign up for text reminders. Finally, you’ve got to get the calendar every year. I swear, we go to CFA all the time and rarely spend a lot of money.
The reason I put this under failures is because I don’t think I need to get my kids used to going to a restaurant 4 times in a week, even if it is fast food. I need to be more aware of this in the future!
Food Waste
Get this: I only threw out the very end of a salad someone brought for the Labor Day pot luck. It was 3 days old and it was the very end of it. Maybe only 1/2 cup left.
I’m so proud of myself for getting serious again about food waste.
This week is Zero Waste Week in the UK. Even though I live in America, I still follow all the bloggers that support it. One day I hope someone starts this in the US!
Earlier this week they sent out an email about not wasting salad. Even though I threw out the very end of a dressed salad, I actually saved an entire bag of romaine by throwing it in the freezer!
I’ll use it in smoothies next week. #foodwastewin
How did you do this week? Any successes? Failures? What about food waste?
