Simple syrup is extremely easy to make and it’s a great way to add flavor to coffee without spending a ton of money. Stop paying for the remade stuff that is overpriced. Make your own simple syrup with this simple recipe.
Simple syrup really is easy to make- surprise!
I’ve put off making my own coffee syrup for years. People have always told me how easy simple syrup is to make and I’ve never trusted them. Come to find out, it’s pretty damn simple.
Since I’m always looking for ways to save money by not going to Starbucks, I decided I’ve got to make my own delicious coffee at home. It’s cheaper and tastes so much better!
This decision promptly led me to Pinterest so I could figure out a way to get my daily dose of espresso. We have an amazing little Gaggia espresso machine and I love making my own drinks. In order to cut back on my Starbucks trips I knew I was going to have to start making my own drinks every day. I’ve bought tons of coffee syrups in the past and the only ones that I love are the ones made by Starbucks. Damn, I’m a loyal customer. I started running low on my Starbucks syrup and figured it was time to start making my own instead of buying it. I can’t believe I haven’t been doing this all along. It really is so simple!
Instead of buying a new pump bottle I reused a hand soap dispenser. It is the perfect size for one cup of simple syrup. I soaked the dispenser in Goo Gone for a while to dissolve the sticky label. While the dispenser soaked, I started making the syrup. Who knew it was this easy? Ok, apparently everyone knows how easy it is. Here are the directions just in case you don’t believe me.
Simple Syrup Recipe
- 2 cups of water
- 1 cup of sugar
- 1 TBSP of flavoring such as vanilla extract or caramel sauce (or anything else- sky is the limit here)
- heat water over medium high heat
- add sugar and stir until it dissolves
- add flavoring
- Boom! You’re finished. That really was simple, wasn’t it?
Mine ended up being the perfect amount for my dispenser and an extra jar I had on hand. I seriously can’t believe I’ve been paying for coffee syrups all this time. That stuff goes for $10-15 a pop. This only cost me the price of two cups of sugar and a tiny bit of vanilla extract. Way cheaper option!
I’m still in love with Starbucks. I use their espresso and I every time I buy more I use that as an excuse to buy a drink. I even have plans to meet a couple of friends there this weekend. I just need to do my best to stay away from it during the weekdays.
First of all there is nothing wrong with loving Starbucks and Target separately or together. I miss our dates too! And I am totally impressed and going to try to make my own syrup!
SO easy! Maybe we should talk on the phone while we drink Starbucks…
I was one of those friends you met at starbs! Wahoo!
Yup! Total highlight of my weekend. Thanks again for the clothes.
Just made this! How do you store it? In the fridge or room temp? Thanks!
I’ve kept mine out next to my coffee and haven’t had any issues. Hope you enjoy it!
