Alright, moms. Can we do some real talk for a minute? Let’s talk morning routines. The more kids I have, the more convinced I am that people who have productive morning routines either don’t have kids or practice witchcraft to keep their kids from waking up in the night and too early in the morning. Grab another cup of coffee, sit down for a minute, and read about my morning routine that has made me so happy.
There Is Zero Productivity in my Morning Routine
As a mom of three young boys, and a caretaker to my mom, my day is filled with a lot of responsibilities. In this stage of my life I just can’t get up early to be productive. And I’m not going to feel guilty about it! Even though my kids have been “sleeping through the night” for years, I still can’t get a good nights rest. Something always comes up. A kid gets sick. Another one has a nightmare. Someone pees the bed. It’s never ending. So much so that I haven’t slept through the night in over two weeks. I’m exhausted. So exhausted that I refuse to wake up early to get work done or enjoy alone time. My body needs to rest. My soul craves the early morning cuddles with the kids that sneak into my bed early in the morning. My mind needs to slowly wake up with a good cup of coffee. So I’m letting my body, soul, and mind take a break right now while I do the tired mom morning routine that seems to be working well for me.
My Morning Routine
Gone are the days of waking up early to “set my intentions”. These days I stay in bed until a kid wakes me up. Mama needs her sleep.
5:30 am- My alarm goes off and I hit the off button, I know better than to hit snooze.
5:35 am- My coffee pot starts making coffee just in case I decide to actually wake up early.
6 ish- If a kid isn’t already cuddling me in bed, one will inevitably walk in around this time for cuddles.
6:15- The kids and I leave the bed and I head straight for the coffee. I pour Coffee mate® natural bliss® Plant Based Half & Half Unsweetened into my strong coffee. Just the act of pouring my coffee brings me joy.
From there, the kids and I cuddle on the couch for a good 15-30 minutes while they watch a show, and I catch up on social media on my phone while drinking coffee. My rule is that I don’t get off the couch until I’ve finished one cup of coffee with my favorite half & half.
I’m really loving the Coffee mate® natural bliss® Plant Based Half & Half Unsweetened because it’s a delicious dairy free and sugar free way to make my coffee taste delicious. Since it’s half almond milk and half coconut cream, it has a unique flavor that makes coffee taste oh so good!
I’m trying to not only cut back on my sugar intake, but also my take out coffee. Coffee mate® natural bliss® Plant Based Half & Half is so good that I don’t even feel tempted to pick up coffee when I’m out and about.
How To Manage Your Own Tired Mom Morning Routine
Guess what!? You can manage your own tired mom morning routine. It’s super easy and great for the soul. Will it make you more productive? Nope. Will it make all your problems disappear? Absolutely not. But will it get you fully caffeinated, and the kids out the door in time for school? Yes m’am. This is all you need to do in order to make mornings a success:
- Wake up to coffee + half & half (keep reading to earn $1 for my favorite half & half: Coffee mate® natural bliss® Plant Based Half & Half). Program your coffee pot to brew at your normal wake up time.
- Cuddle the kids and soak up all the love.
- Don’t stop cuddling until you’ve finished your coffee.
- Frantically make breakfast, lunches, and get the kids dressed.
While the productivity experts will tell you to get up at 5 am, set your intentions for the day, journal your gratitudes, and start work immediately, I’m here to tell you that it’s okay if you don’t do any of that. As long as you make time to cuddle the kids and drink coffee that you love, you’ll be fine. I promise.
