Happy Thursday! I’ve been sick with a head cold all week and don’t feel too happy at the moment. Colds are no big deal for me when I’m not pregnant because I rely on the power of NyQuil to help me sleep. I’m going on two nights of restless sleep at this point. Maybe this is the universe’s way of prepping me for nighttime feedings with a newborn. I’m headed to the drug store today to stock up on saline spray to see if that will help me get a good nights rest tonight. I’m afraid I’ll die if I don’t get some sleep tonight.
Anyway, back to happier thoughts like Thrifty Thursday! I’ve done pretty well with saving money this week. Check out some of the highlights:
Free Sleep Number Pillow through Smiley360
Even this pillow can’t help me sleep through the night with a cold. Sigh. Even so, it’s a great pillow and I’m excited that I got it in exchange for an hour of my time. I joined Smiley360 when I was doing research for my word of mouth marketing post. The site matches you up with products and companies for reviews and rewards you with free products. In order to get this Sleep Number Coolfit foam pillow I had to go to the Sleep Number store in my mall and try out all the beds to get my personal sleep number (30). It was almost like being a mystery shopper except the sales lady knew I why I was there. I had to disclose that information so I could get the pillow. Then I had to share my experience on social media and with Smily360. It ended up taking about an hour of my time and was totally worth getting a free pillow valued at over $100.
I highly recommend getting involved with at least one word of mouth marketing website. You can find my full review on the different ones here.
Ordered Target Beauty Boxes
Unfortunately, these are all sold out now! I’m obsessed with a coupon/ money saving blog called Hip2Save and I follow the blog on Facebook. She does an amazing job keeping her Facebook fans up to date and posted this deal. I was hesitant at first, but ended up buying all three boxes to use as stocking stuffers for my husband and two little sisters. The three boxes total up at a $95 value and I bought all three for a total of $20 with free shipping!
It’s okay if you missed out on this one because Target does these boxes several time a year. I highly suggest you follow at least one popular coupon/ money saving blog on Facebook like Hip2Save. This one is definitely my current favorite.
Renewed our Lease!
Most of you know how much I love living in our little 2 bedroom apartment. It isn’t ideal to have two kids in a two bedroom apartment and most everyone I know has encouraged us to move. Tom and I looked around at 3 bedroom apartments and townhomes and couldn’t find anything worth spending more money. Everything was going to be at least $600 more than what we currently pay in rent. Luckily our landlord agreed to renew our lease and only raised rent by $50. We feel like we are saving an extra $550 every month and we plan to put that money to savings and our loans every month.
Finished my Christmas shopping
I’m the type who buys presents all year long so I don’t have to spend extra in the month of December. I’m proud to say that everything has been purchased with the exception of a few candy stocking stuffers and my family in Alabama/ FL panhandle. Everything for my family is in my Amazon cart and I should be able to buy that today.
Tom and I picked up this at a consignment store last week to use as Robert’s big gift from Santa.
Overall, we spent less than $100 on Robert and plan to put at least an extra $100 to his college account. At this point he has as much as we do in savings. It’s a little sad to admit that and also pretty exciting. I hope we can continue to save money on the little things so we can put money aside for the big things such as college.
