TGIT! Too bad all my TGIT shows are over for the season. I need something new to look forward to on Thursdays. Any suggestions? This week has not been great when it comes to money.
Each week I do a quick roundup of the thrifty and frugal things I’ve been up to. It’s also a good time for me to reflect on my week and figure out how I can save even more money in the future. Here my latest edition of Thrifty Thursday.
Still over budget
After going over budget last week, I thought I’d be on (if not below) budget this week. Boy was I wrong!
My mom and I did two shopping trips to get me ready for my first week home alone. We went to Sam’s Club and Trader Joe’s. I bought a bunch of great easy prep meals. Even though I went over, I’m not expecting to buy much next week as far as dinners go.
We splurged on my mom while she was here and bought mini donuts at the mall. I couldn’t help myself!
Here’s the breakdown of this week’s spending:
Sam’s Club- $129.46
Trader Joe’s- $98.30
Total- $236.76 ($86.76 over)
I’m still happy that I’m writing down everything I spend. Otherwise I’d be tempted to spend even more! Mom and I went consignment shopping and I had to pass on buying anything because I knew I was going to be over budget.
Skipped anniversary presents
Tom and I celebrated our 6th wedding anniversary on Saturday. Instead of swapping presents, we went out for an afternoon beer and picked up takeout sushi for dinner. I probably should include those costs in my budget, but I forgot to write those down. Plus I don’t usually count eating out towards my weekly spending since it’s something Tom and I do together. I like to give Tom the responsibility of budgeting that part of our lives. Anyway, skipping gifts allowed us to eat out without feeling guilty.
I received my first Rocksbox last week! It’s a jewelry rental subscription service that is $29 a month. Each month you get over $200 worth of jewelry and you get the option to buy the pieces at a discounted price.
I’ll be posting more about Rocksbox on Monday but I couldn’t wait to share my freebie code with you. Use the code eatdrinkandsavexoxo to get your first month for free.
More caffeine needed
Jackson must be going through a growth spurt because he’s been eating every 1-2 hours which means I’m getting very little sleep. I’ve been tempted to go to Starbucks a bunch, but I only went once this week. I made lots of coffee at home!
