Each week I do a quick roundup of the thrifty and frugal things I’ve been up to. It’s also a good time for me to reflect on my week and figure out how I can save even more money in the future. Here my latest edition of Thrifty Thursday.
Started out on budget
Quickly went OVER budget
I shouldn’t have been so happy because I quickly went over budget. After my Target trip I made the following purchases:
Deli- $10.06 We wanted to try out fresh meat from a local butcher shop. Soooo good.
Dollar Tree- $9.12 I needed more peanut butter crackers for middle of the night breastfeeding sessions.
Amazon Instant Video- $14.99 We desperately needed to buy Big Hero 6 to entertain Robert. Worth. Every. Penny.
Starbucks- $10 I’m sleep deprived. Don’t judge me.
Total with groceries: $224.65 ($74.65 over budget)
We also got charged for something from the Geek Squad with Best Buy. It was for $50. I’m going to call and dispute the charge because my computer doesn’t have any extra coverage. It’s a pretty bad computer actually, not worth spending an extra $50 a year on anything. Fingers crossed that I can get that money back.
All of these purchases added up quickly and now I’m WAY over budget.
I’m glad I’ve decided to write down everything I spend for a while. It’s eye opening to see how much I actually spend. I’d recommend a written budget for anyone who has a major life change such as a new baby.
2nd birthday party
Robert had a great time at his family birthday party in the park. We got together with both grandmothers on Mother’s Day to celebrate the birthday and the moms. It was so nice.
My mother in law made the cake and Robert loved it! He got some great gifts too. Tom and I made a contribution to his college savings account instead of giving him a big present.
Word of Mouth Marketing Products
A couple of weeks ago I told you about two products I recieved free from Influenster: Neutrogena Natural face wipes and Carefree panty liners.
I’ve loved both products! The Neutrogena face wipes are awesome. I used them in the hospital after giving birth and it was nice to not have to get out of bed to clean my face. You can imagine that I had some nasty sweat all over my face after pushing a baby out of me.
The Carefree panty liners are pretty great too. I’m not usually a pad or panty liner fan, but these are perfect for the postpartum bleeding. Moms- you know what I mean, right? They are just the right size for my yoga pants and workout leggings.
New start up to support
You know how much I love kickstarters, right? Well, I was approached by the creators of Crayon Crunch to help promote their product. Crayon Crunch is an awesome website where you can make personalized books for your kids. This is way better than the old school personalized books where everything is the same, you just change the kid’s name.
You’ve got to check it out. The kickstarter will begin on Monday the 18th, but I wanted to go ahead and get the word out early. I’m not getting anything free for this, I just like to share cool new products with my readers. I hope you like the website as much as I do. Wouldn’t this make a really cool birthday or Christmas present? Hint hint to all the people who want to buy Robert and Jackson gifts!
Borrowed instead of buying new
Jackson already has a cold. Poor baby. Instead of buying a humidifier, we are borrowing one from a friend. Every penny counts!
How have you been thrifty this week? Please share!
