Wallaroo Hat Company review- wide brim hat for gardening

If you’re a regular reader then you know how important it is for me to vote with my dollars. In today’s consumer culture, it is easy to fall into the trap of buying things that we don’t need. Even worse, it’s easy to fall into the trap of buying poorly and unethically made products that we don’t need. As a conscious consumer, I work really hard to buy products that are ethically made, which is why I’m always excited to support a B Corp business like Wallaroo Hat Company.

Wallaroo Hat Review- Skin Cancer Foundation Approved

All Wallaroo Hats are Skin Cancer Foundation approved. As a Floridian who is in the sun a lot, I’m always looking for ways to decrease my sun exposure.

All hats meet the following requirements from the Skin Cancer Foundation:

  • An ultraviolet protection factor (UPF) of 30 or higher
  • Acceptable test results according to the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists method or AS/NZS Standard
  • For hats, in addition to the fabric requirements specified above, a minimum brim width of 3 inches

My Favorite Extra-Wide Brim Sun Hat- the Wallaroo Nosara Wide Brim

I spend a lot of time in my garden so it’s probably no surprise that my favorite hat is the Nosara Wide Brim. It just screams, “I’m a gardener”, right?

This particular hat is 100% raffia with cotton lining. I’ve been working really hard lately to decrease the amount of plastic in my clothing. Plastic has its place, but I don’t want it in my clothing. Natural fibers for the win!  You wouldn’t believe how hard it is to find hats that aren’t made with some sort of polyester. I was thrilled to find that many Wallaroo Hat Company hats are made with natural fibers.

Here are a few more facts about the Nosara Wide Brim:

  • UPF 50+ fabric blocks 97.5% of ultraviolet rays, according to the Australian Radiation Protection Agency
  • 4½” brim
  • Packing not recommended
  • Crown size: 58cm
  • Internal drawstring adjusts fit
  • 100% raffia exclusive of trim, cotton lining

I particularly liked how the hat shipped. It arrived in pristine condition thanks to the packaging!

Wallaroo Hat Company has donated to many organizations over the years and is pleased to have started a 1% donation program in 2008 specifically targeted to help in the elimination of skin cancer.

Isn’t is fun to support businesses that give back to our community?
