Well guys, I have to be honest for this week in review post: it’s been a hell of a week.
My website has had a ton of issues and I’ve been trying so hard to fix it. Be patient with me while I work on it over the next few weeks. I’ve been so stressed that I need to order some Perfectly Pampered items from my friend Nicole. Join her Facebook group to learn more!
While the week has been stressful, there have been some good moments too. Less time blogging meant more time to do other things I enjoy. I took the kids on a nature hike,
we went to the zoo, I had dinner at the new Tacos & Tequila location,
and I stocked up on hurricane essentials.
I also tried out a new inexpensive wine. This Spine Road Lodi Red Blend was only $5.99 at Lucky’s Market. It was great for a blend. It was smooth and mellow. I’ll definitely be drinking this one again.
It was a pretty productive week, even if it was full of website frustrations!
Is anyone else worried about the tropical depression out in the Atlantic right now? I am, but at least I’ve prepped a bit. Check out this post about preparation if you haven’t prepped yet. I think we did well with our food prep. I bought water, peanut butter, crackers, beans, nuts and corn as well as new flashlights.
Weekly spending
As far as spending goes this week. It wasn’t great, but it wasn’t terrible either. Here is what I spent:
Lucky’s Market: $69.27
CVS: $14.29
Asian Market: $27.42
Tacos & Tequila $46.16
Chico-Fil-a $8
Target $141.05 (larger than usual due to hurricane and back to school shopping)
Amazon $0.13 (to review a new item- click here to review items too)
Starbucks $10
Total: $316.31
I was able to stick to my new and improved $150 budget for groceries (head here to read about it and enter to win $10,000)!
On another positive note, I got this amazing Harry Potter T-shirt for only $3.88 at Target. Gotta love clearance, right? Even at this low price I was still hesitant to buy new clothes for myself. I love buying used clothing so much that it feels strange to buy new things!
Food Waste Friday
Food waste was pretty bad here this week.
I tossed out leftover fried chicken from a church picnic, 3 clementines that had gone bad, moldy green beans that I had just bought from the store, leftover pasta, 2 avocados that I had just bought from the store, and a bloody egg. So gross.
I was pretty upset about the produce because I went to use them the next day. However, they were on clearance so I guess you get what you pay for, right? No need to worry, they went straight into the compost bin instead of the trash.
That’s a wrap for my week in review. How did you do this week? On budget? Food wasted? Let me know!
Way to shine a positive light on a crummy week! I’ve had too much produce waste here lately, too. Time to get back on the ball.
It’s such a defeating feeling. I really need to get better. I’m probably buying too much and not freezing before they go bad. It’s hard to find the time with the kids though!
Any time I even SMELL the chance of a hurricane I get freaked. While we’ve been very, very lucky during hurricanes, we lost power for 11 days during Hurricane Sandy and our town’s downtown area (probably 3 blocks from where we lived at the time on the Jersey Shore) and the town directly next to us was completely destroyed. As soon as we moved we immediately bought a generator and created a mini version of your hurricane kit.
Good call on the hurricane kit! We’ve been lucky for the last 10 years so I feel like we are due for a big one. I can’t even remember the last time our power was out due to a storm. I’m probably jinxing myself right now! Gosh, Sandy was devastating! No wonder you get freaked!
