This has been an awesome week! We’ve spent a minimal amount, wasted very little food, and got to take a fun trip to explore Jacksonville.
Usually I do my week in review posts on Fridays, but I’ll be in at the Travel Media Showcase Family Travel Conference so I’ve scheduled an informative post to go out tomorrow instead. This will be my first travel conference, and I can’t wait to learn more about budget friendly travel so I can share all my findings with you.
Speaking of budget friendly travel, did you know that Jacksonville is the most affordable vacation destination in Florida? Y’all, I can’t get over the prices in the restaurants. Coming from Naples, one of the most expensive destinations in Florida, these prices are more than reasonable. I can’t remember the last time we went out to eat and the most expensive thing on the menu was $15. Usually meals start at that price! Even the drinks are reasonable priced here. These were from Candy Apple Cafe + Cocktails.
We’ve been in Jacksonville for a FAM tour (familiarity tour) through the TMS Family Travel Conference. My family and I have been exploring Jacksonville with several other bloggers and their families so we can share our information with our audience. I think all of you would love these other bloggers! I’ve so enjoyed getting to know them. We’ve been traveling with Jordan from Almost Supermom, Lisa from Fun Money Mom, Marla from Just Marla, Rachel from Jet Setting Mom, and the Bender family from Travel with Bender. Here are my boys watching the tiger training at the Jacksonville Zoo with Caius Bender.
I plan to do a detailed post about the family friendly things to do in Jacksonville, but I wanted to go ahead and give you a sneak peak of the things we’ve been doing. Here are a few of my favorite shots from our trip so far.
The view from our room at The Four Points by Sheraton. These rooms are ridiculously affordable compared to beach view room in the rest of Florida. This particular room starts at $160 a night.
Robert got to work on his golf skills at Top Golf. This place is so much fun, even for kids.
We got to check out the sunrise yesterday morning before a busy day.
It’s so cool to see the sunrise! We are used to seeing the sunset on the Naples beach.
The kids got to learn a lot at the Museum of Science and History (MOSH). Here they are looking for an alligator snapping turtle.
We took a water taxi tour and got to see this beautiful city skyline.
We took a lollipop making class at Sweet Pete’s Candy store. This was my favorite part of the trip!
Jackson couldn’t handle it so he passed out for his nap. He even slept through lunch!
We checked out the Jacksonville Zoo and got to see this beauty.
We’ve done a whole lot more, including lots of eating (and some drinking). I can’t wait to give you the full recap.
Until then, you should know that November is Kids Free November in Jacksonville. There is so much to to here, especially for kids, and in November they get in free to all sorts of places. Get the full list here.
I still can’t get over how affordable Jacksonville is for a family vacation. Visiting in November makes it an even better deal!
I can’t sign off without leaving you with this shot of Jackson enjoying the beach.
Have you ever been to Jacksonville? If so, what’s your favorite thing to do?
