Happy Friday! I’m so happy it’s going to be a long weekend. We don’t have any exciting plans for Memorial Day weekend. I’m just excited that Tom gets an extra day off from work. I might try to make this delicious drink again!
It’s been an eventful week since I last wrote a personal post. Here’s a recap of what’s been going on in my life.
We got a new van!
Well, new to us. It’s a 2014 Honda Odyssey. Here we are in our first van selfie.
I know it’s a bit of a surprise since I’ve written a lot about how we wanted to wait until our loans were paid off. That was the plan until Tom’s car started leaking a mysterious oil. We took it to the shop and they couldn’t even diagnosis it without us spending a couple thousand dollars. After a few serious discussions, we decided it was best to go ahead an trade the car in while it was still worth money.
I’m not excited about the car payment, but I’m making enough money from my blog to cover the cost. For the first time since leaving teaching, I feel like I’m contributing financially. It feels great to be able to afford a new (to us) car. Tom did well and got us financing at only 1.5%! I can’t wait to write a post with some tips for buying a car.
I’m cleaning out the house
Now that I have a van, I’m able to clean out the house. All of this went to Goodwill.
I’m trying to get back to my minimalistic ways by getting rid of old toys and clothes. I’m not sure what to do about all these cloth diapers.
If anyone is interested in a stash, let me know! I’ll sell it for cheap! I might end up selling it to a resale store in the next couple of weeks. If you can’t tell, I think we are done having kids.
I shopped a lot!
I hate to admit this, but I spent a good bit of money this week. I don’t even have the total like I usually do. We went to Target, Lucky’s and Trader Joe’s this week. It seemed like every time I thought I’d bought everything we needed, I’d forgotten something. Even with a list! Luckily this guy loves the grocery store.
I got my latest Stitch Fix (for free- I can’t wait to tell you my tips for getting FREE Stitch Fixes). I didn’t love any of the clothes so I sent them back and went to Old Navy instead. For the price of this dress from Stitch Fix, I got 3 tops and 2 dresses!
I really love how Stitch Fix sends styling suggestions. I used these tips to find cheaper clothes at Old Navy. While I love Stitch Fix, I think I love getting clothes styled just for me in the mail more than I enjoy buying them. Silly, right?
Enjoyed lots of wine, and some beer
Did you know it was National Wine Day on Wednesday? It was the one night out of the week that I didn’t drink wine! We went to a brewery with friends from my church instead.
Drinking beer at the brewery on #nationalwineday. Didn’t we just have some sort of wine day? Does anyone else think these official food and drink days are getting out of hand? I’m not complaining, but I can’t keep up! The only one I can keep track of is #nationaldonutday which is in 9 days!!! The countdown is on! #beer #foodtruck #countdown #flblogger #floridablogger #riptide #riptidebrewery #riptidebrewingcompany #naples #naplesfl #naplesblogger #myunicornlife @riptidebrewingco
Don’t worry, I drank plenty of wine throughout the week to make up for it. I even tried two new ones. Tom and I enjoyed Old Soul Zinfandel from Total Wine in bed over the weekend. This is my kind of date night because it’s cheap and I get to stay in my pajamas.
During the week we drank Tavernello from Lucky’s Market. It was only $4.99! BTW- if you haven’t ever been to Lucky’s, you need to go. You can get $2 beers to drink while you shop. It’s a life changer. I don’t do it when I grocery shop with the kids, but when I go by myself on weekends, I’m in heaven. They have locally grown and organic food at great prices.
Speaking of wine, I’m super pumped that this time next week I’ll be getting ready for the Grape Celebration. If you are in Naples and want to attend with me, get your tickets here.
Y’all, I’ve been slacking on reviews lately! I’ve been busy with other paid blog opportunities that I’ve forgotten to tell you about two products I recently got the chance to review. Learn how to review products for free here.
The first one is SweatLeaf Water Drops. I’m a big fan of water so I didn’t like these straight up. I did, however, enjoy them with a little water and vodka! If you are looking for a low calorie way to add flavor to drinks, check them out!
The second product I got to test out was the NeilMed Nasprira Nasal-Oral Aspirator.
Let me tell you that I was not excited about testing this product. I had tried similar brands before and found them to be disgusting. I don’t love the idea of sucking snot out of my kids nose with my mouth. But this product is amazing! It worked so well. Jackson even got used to me using it on him and would let me do it without a fight.
If you want to buy one you can get them at Babies R Us, Toys R Us, Wal-Mart, Walgreens, Rite Aid, Target, Bed Bath and Beyond, Harmon, Kinney Drugs, Shop Rite, Brookshire’s, amazon.com, drugstore.com, neilmed.com, and myotcstore.com for $9.99- $14.99. I totally recommend it!
Wow, I know this has been a long post. Thanks for staying with me to the end. I love doing my week in review posts, but sometimes they get a little lengthy. Hopefully I’ll be better with tracking my spending and food waste for next week.
Enjoy your weekend!
