Happy Friday, my friends.
We’ve had a great week over here. I’ve stayed on budget, explored a new charity, and tried new wines.
First things first: I stayed on budget while grocery shopping. This is 2 weeks in a row of staying under $100!
I don’t know if I can do this 3 weeks in a row! Maybe? I guess we will see next week.
I still spent money elsewhere. I went to Target to pick up a new cup for Jackson since he lost his old one. I also bought a couple of bottles of reasonably priced wine at Paradise Wine.
I dropped by the store to check it out since I’ll be going to The Grape Celebration Speakeasy that’s taking place there on June 3rd.
The Grape Celebration is going to be so much fun! I can’t wait. It’s going to be the perfect way to kick off my birthday weekend (I turn 31 on June 4th). The reason I’m so excited about The Grape Celebration is because it’s put on by the same people who put on the Naples Winter Wine Festival. People come from all over the country for this event put on by the Naples Children and Education Foundation. The Foundation supports programs that improve the physical, emotional and educational lives of underprivileged and at-risk children here in Collier County. The Winter Wine Festival has raised over $146 million dollars since it started!
I’d like to get more involved with local charities like this one. I don’t know about you, but I often have a hard time finding good ways to give back to my community. Most options are either too expensive or too time consuming. With student loan debt and kids, many options don’t work for us. That’s why I’m so excited about The Grape Celebration Speakeasy event. It’s the perfect way to do date night, try new wines, and give back to the community.Looking for a fun way to give back to the community? Consider a night out at a benefit! Click To Tweet
If you’re local (or planning a visit to Naples) you should join me on June 3rd. The tickets are $95 and include heavy hors d’oeuvres from Crave. There will also be over 50 different vintages of wine. I can’t wait! I feel like Phoebe in Friends when she drinks for the kids (image from 9gag).
Head here to buy tickets. You know you want to!
Aren’t the invites below too cute? The speakeasy theme will be fun. Any suggestions for attire? The picture below is the invite in front of the bar area.
I was so happy to find Cono Sur while I was at Paradise Wines. This is one of the wines we had at our wedding.
Wine reviews were awesome while they lasted, but I don’t have the time these days to sit down with pen and paper while I sip my wine. Most of my wine drinking looks like this.
I gulp it down as the kids play. While I can’t give you a formal wine review, I can give you a thumbs up. This wine rocks. And for less than $15, it makes a perfect moderately priced wine.
In other news we were pretty frugal this week. We only did free things like the beach, zoo (we have a membership we got through Groupon), and the library. Robert even got his first library card!
Jackson had fun walking around the fountain at the library. I’ll never get tired of photographing this fountain. It makes me happy.
As for food waste, we didn’t do too bad. I tossed out some bread that had molded, as well as a jar of mint juleps I made for The Kentucky Derby.
Something started to grow in this jar so I wasn’t sure it was safe for consumption anymore!
We even had a food waste success! I was able to use up some juice and yogurt to make popsicles. Robert was a fan, even though they melted too quick for his taste.
That sums up our spending, saving, and food waste this week. What have you been up to?
