Word of Mouth (WOM) Marketing is a genius concept!  It’s a win-win situation for advertisers and consumers.  Advertising to the masses can be expensive, but get people to like your product and WOM can spread like wildfire.  With WOM marketing, companies pay less for advertising and give people free products to try in return for their honest review.  Think about it, how often do you complain about things you got for free?  That’s the genius part of their plan, very few people will give a negative review if they got the product free.

Here are 4 steps to help you get involved with WOM marketing:

Register with every website listed below.  It can’t hurt to try all of them.

Stay active once you’ve found the ones that work best with your lifestyle.  Some require you to be very active, and others require less work.   Keep up with the ones you like.

Follow all the directions once you get the product.  If you spread the word correctly, you’ll be rewarded with more free things!

Be honest.  If you dislike the product, tell them why.  You’re reviewing it for a reason.

Here is a list all the current WOM marketing websites:

This is my favorite WOM marketing site.  You connect all of your social media sites to them and complete a few surveys and if you are a good fit for them, they will start sending you VoxBoxes.  My first VoxBox had over $100 worth of Victoria’s Secret workout gear.  Once you get a VoxBox you can qualify for another box by reviewing the products on social media.  It’s fun, easy and has awesome rewards!

BzzAgent is pretty similar to Influenster and is supposedly the biggest WOM marketing company and most reputable.  Personally, I have completed more surveys with them than Influenster and have yet to be selected for anything.  I dislike their points system because you have to redeem your points to use them and it all seems so confusing to me.  BzzAgent is way more time intensive than the other companies, but also seems worth it if you get selected to review their products.

House Party

house party

I like the way House Party is set up the best.  They have multiple parties to apply for and you apply for the ones that you’d like to host.  If chosen, they send you a party pack complete with free products to throw a party for your friends.  I’ve finally been selected for a Mega Bloks House Party and I’m so excited!  I’ll be sure to post more about the overall experience soon.  So far, this company is on of my favorites.

This one requires a lot of involvement.  You need to participate in group discussion and those opportunities fill up fast.  The best way to stay up to date with Crowdtap is to pay attention to the emails they send you and use those to stay involved.  I’ve heard that the beginning is slow moving, but once you get involved you get way more free products to review.  Personally, this one takes too much time for me to get involved.

smiley 360

Smiley 360 is set up pretty similarly to BzzAgent and Influenster.  Complete surveys and they will match you up with product freebies in return for sharing it on social media.  Here is my personal Smiley360 link:  http://h5.sml360.com/-/ew6k

Swaggable is like the sample version of these other companies.  They will send you samples, you write reviews on their website and share them on Facebook and Twitter.

pinch me

Pinch me is the easiest out of all these.  You don’t have to share your experience through WOM, but they would like it!  All you do is check their website every other Tuesday for free samples, sign up for them and then test them out.  It’s like a free box subscription of samples.  So. Much. Fun.  I love this one!

This is another easy one.  You complete surveys and join group discussions and they send you free things in return.  I once got 3 full size things of deodorant.  They ask you to try the samples and write a review on their website.  It is fun to see other people’s reviews too!

Blog relevant WOM marketing

Another way to get into WOM marketing is to join blog communities.  I personally love the mom blog community and have had several paid blogging opportunities through them.  Here are the ones I love:

Green Mom’s Meet

Bloggy Moms

Top Mommy Blogs

If you are looking for your own blog community just Google blog community {insert your type of blog}.  It is fun to get involved and meet other bloggers too!

Have you participated in word of mouth marketing before?  What do you think of it?

Did I miss any WOM marketing sites?  Let me know so I can add them to the list!
